October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Hello, don’t fret, you’re still on the Sandier Pastures blog – only with a different background color. This blog has gone pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month which happens every year in October. {I’m going pink in Twitter too.}

To promote screening for breast cancer here in the UAE, the DHA is organizing free checkups across all government departments for the entire month of October. A mobile mammogram machine will be taken to locations to conduct on-the-spot screenings for women. {Locations have yet to be announced/confirmed – if you’re reading this and you know, please share the information}

A mammogram screening using the mobile mammography unit takes less than 30 minutes, and detects breast cancer at its earliest stage — when it is most curable.

Breast cancer knows no age and gender (yes, even men are diagnosed with it) and early detection saves lives so please do whatever you can to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about it, raise money for research.

Dubai goes pink

October is breast cancer awareness month. Thousands join the charity walkathon in Dubai to raise awareness and funds of the fight for breast cancer. The venue, near Burjuman Mall was full of people from all walks of life dressed in pink and sporting pink ribbons. Thousands of pink balloons were released on air as the walkathon started at 8am.

Pristine is sick at the moment and our plan to join the walkathon was shelved at the last minute. She would have loved to wear her favorite pink dress to the event. However, we were near the venue and saw the balloons on air. Pristine saw the balloons on air and said, “chase the balloons, mom!” After all, pink is her favorite color!

Do you have any pink October event in your area?
