It’s still summer

dubai sky mid october 2010

There’s something about the skies lately and it’s good. The dusty, hazy gray have cleared up making way to beautiful azure sky with some clouds! I know this type of Dubai sky so well now – winter is definitely around the corner.

Winter, yeah. I am not kidding. We do have winters here but it not like desert land will soon become winter wonderland – that only exists inside the man made ski resort Ski Dubai inside the Mall of the Emirates here. It’s not like we’ll gonna be wearing thick fur jackets. No, no, no. It just means it’ll be a little cooler than what we have for 6 months, probably great beach weather where the sand won’t scorch our feet and then some rain.

It’s already mid-October soon so I suppose in most parts of the Northern Hemisphere, the weather has mellowed down, trees starting to change color welcoming autumn. Here? We’re still having 38-40C (that’s still in the 100’s for all you Fahrenheit people) during midday. Having a three digit (F) temp is only a good thing when you’re baking something in the oven! Some days back, humidity started being bitchy on us early in the morning with a whooping 94%. Aaah, free sauna.

Morning and night temps are lower though, hovering around 26C-30C (~86F) so it’s “pleasant”. But we have yet to turn the aircondition off.

How’s the weather in your place? Please don’t tell me you’ve turned the heaters on already!

  1. Hello!
We’re enjoying typical October weather…a high of 10C and a low of 0C. My heat has been on since the beginning of October, but I live in a regulated building (I don’t control it! I would turn it off!). It rained a lot in September, so we didn’t really get to enjoy it…Soon all the kids will be off trick or treating for Halloween with snowsuits under their costumes 🙂 I always wished I could be a pretty princess without my poofy jacket underneath and big boots on..

  2. Hi Grace,
It’s Betsy from Zen Mama. So sorry you couldn’t leave a comment. That’s so strange. I have gotten fewer comments lately and have more people on my blog. I will check that out.
Come back and visit and try again!

Glad to have found your blog and to read about your interesting life!! I am hoping to start a travel blog this winter called The Zen Mama Travels. We have traveled all over Mexico, US and Europe and hope to do more. We live in Colorado and love the weather here!! It’s been one of the most beautiful falls ever here!

  3. Ah, yeah, we turned the heaters on last week! 😉 Right about the time we realized we hadn’t used our AC’s for a couple weeks and could get our windows back! No joke, it went from being in the 80’s still to being in the 50’s and 60’s in just a couple weeks! Or course we have lame broken window seals so our house doesn’t keep temperatures well at all.
I am so loving all the fall colors too! Last year it went from summer to winter almost overnight and all the leaves just fell off the trees before they could change colors. But this year so far it’s gorgeous!

  4. That IS definitely a gorgeous Winter sky 🙂

Here in IL it’s been fluctuating between 50’s and 60’s. We have ended up turning on the heat a few times, but that’s when it went down to the 30’s.

    I’m DREADING the colder, snow-bearing weather >.<

  5. The heaters are half power, the leaves have started to cover the streets with a multicolor carpet of dead nature.
For me this is good I like colder weather, the temperatures are between 7-17C and we have rain every 3-4 days.
In Dubai is too hot, I think I would never adapt there:P

  6. I grew up in the Mojave Desert on a navy base, of all things! Hot in the summer, but cold in the winter. Although I love living where I’m surrounded by trees and lakes and everything that you don’t find in a desert, now, I still miss that crisp, clean air of the high desert. I could be outside and never feel sticky, like I do in Central Texas.

  7. We are heading into summer and the temp yesterday was 42° already! But that´s because it hasn´t rained in so long. Once it rains, the temp. will be better. But once summer hits full force, we will be having the AC´s on full time too. 🙂
