And we’re one week into the new house

So, it’s been a week since we moved into the new apartment and so far? I’ve been sleeping really comfortably. Due to fatigue and a bad back, I was able to sleep without problems despite the room not very dark with the lack of curtains. We asked someone to drill through the cement wall to attached the railings and he promised to come “immediately madam, just let me get my tools” (this was last Wednesday) and for two days he did not show up. His tools must be in Timbuktu.

I got fed up of calling him like we’re at his mercy so I asked around for an electric drill and wanted to bore the wall myself. If you want to get things done, you just gotta work it yourself!! But my back snapped at me and I couldn’t even hold the drill properly while standing on a high ladder so my superwoman plan was scooped out. Bleh. It would have been fun to do it myself. (In hubby’s defense, he always come home beyond 9pm so it’s too late to do drilling – we might upset the neighbors)

Most of our things from the old apartment building have been moved and organized with a few bits and bobs still on the floor including posters. There was one poster though that took time to hit the wall:

Pristine loves this poster and we go through it almost everyday. She can locate some countries without help or hints. She always first points at Japan though and asks why it’s so small but when we go there, it’s big? LOL

Anyway, my mom has mentioned a few days ago that there’s a certain bird that frequents the small space outside our living room window. The morning after we moved in, we found this:

Nothing beats free nature lessons for Pristine! I am so excited for her because she haven’t seen a nest or a bird’s egg before. We will see in the coming days what will happen. Our little detective is closely following up on the case and diligently reporting to me when I get home (and it’s too dark I couldn’t see the nest anymore!).

In the two days I spent at home because of my back injury, I’ve seen the bird sit on the nest but there’s still only one egg so I told my mom: “Why only one egg? I thought birds lay more!” to which my mom replied, “Well, just like the owners of this house! I thought they’d have more babies too!”

Right. Thanks, mom. Ouch.

Lastly, have to mention that just before we moved last Friday, we had sushi:

I don’t eat raw fish so I make maki rolls for myself and Pristine. The sushi dinner was for the hubs so he has some energy for our big day the next day. And it seemed to work – he did not break his back despite carrying the heavy stuff!

    1. We’re only on the 3rd floor and the building is only 3 storeys high too. My back is getting better I just found it very easy to get fatigued right now. Maybe I haven’t recovered fully yet. If only I could stay at home for a few more days!

  2. It’s always exciting to move into a new house. At the same time it’s quite exhausting from carrying and moving all those boxes, things… But what the heck it’s all part of the adventure. Love sashimi by the way. The sauce mixed with wasabi and how the fiery-hot feel goes up your nose once you take a bite. Oooohh I just love that! =D

  3. I love the idea about doing things yourself… but you are supposed to be resting young lady! I’m glad you are sleeping well and starting to feel better, but don’t over-do it.
    I have always loved photos and posters of maps and I think Pristine’s comment about Japan is so adorable, along with her daily reports on the baby bird and the nest. I cannot wait until the egg is hatched and you show photos of the bird.
    I don’t eat raw fish either, but I do like the maki rolls (or California rolls they call them here I think). It was very sweet of you to get that for your hubby before the big move!

  5. Sounds like things are going well. Love the photos..the shot of the nest and egg is awesome. Can’t wait to see photos after the egg hatches. And the sushi…yum, looks delicious!

  7. It sounds like you guys are on a new and exciting adventure!! Discovering new things and making the house your guys’ home 🙂
    That birds nest is so cool! I bet Pristine loves to sit there and watch it (If I had one like that, I would sit there and watch it all day too!).
    I’m an avid lover of sushi so I can say that meal looks so amazing, I wish I could have been there to have some 😀

  10. Wow, looks like you are going to have a great time in the new home… Pahulam sa world map! heheh- para ma bright pud ni akong mga chikitngs parehas ni pristine. The shot on the sushi was nice. Dili diay ka mokaon og raw fish? dili ka gakaon og kinilaw? BTW, thanks for emailing back. I was offline for almost a week because the kids (josh and danielle) got terribly sick. We spent the entire week in the hospital. Just got home yesterday afternoon.

  11. I love maps and I hope that Cory will too! I always was the navigator on car trips with my dad driving because my mom has NO sense of direction! 😉
    The egg is so cool!!! And some birds do only lay one egg at a time. Do you know what kind it is?
    Oh, and no sushi for me either, raw fish, ugh!
    How is the view from this place? Can you see the horizon at all? What about a mosque?
