I miss going to the gym. I haven’t been there in four days and it seems like forever. The thought of sore muscles when I come back makes me cringe but still I know I have to go back. Contrary to some who loathe gyms, I love that place and the time I spend there, especially the sauna afterwards. It is one of the precious me times I rarely, rarely have. Oh and the shower room is bigger than the one in my house.
The reason I’ve been missing out on my gym time is something that happens every month. It hit me so hard this month leaving me crouching in pain, with fever and zero appetite with occassional throwing up session. This IS my personal kryptonite. I have to plan everything around it – my travels, vacation, etc. Ugh. Everyone in my house understands, even Pristine helps me around when I can’t stand up to drink the only thing I can stomach – hot herbal tea.
But for the people outside? It’s nightmare explaining to them. When I filed for my one last sick leave credit:
Boss: So you’ve got so many sick leave credits left?
Me: No, this is the last one for this year*.
* I have six (6!) sick leave credits/year.
Boss: What’s going on with you, why are you always sick?
Me: Er, I’m not really sick, it’s not a disease.
Boss: Then what’s the problem?
Me: It’s just uh, uhm..it happens every month..if you get the picture.
The specific words refused to slip through my mouth. Of course my male boss didn’t really “get the picture”.
Boss: (finally getting it) Oh, so you need 12 sick leaves a year, at least! *sarcastically*
Me: I’m lucky to get some on non-working days so that won’t be necessary.
I could really use a break from all the pain by being pregnant (but that wish is being so elusive, for crying out loud!). When I was, six years ago, I had 21 months of freedom and it saved me a lot of pain killers. ‘Course I had sleepless nights in exchange for that but being pain and mess free was something I really, really appreciated.
If you know anything to relieve cramps and pain on that time of the month, please share. I’m fed up with popping Advil.
