Dubai’s floating bridge is due to open in a few days with signboards all over the city to direct commuters to the location.
Originally it says it will open on March 2007 but the calendars here have a ++2 months difference. If they say it will be finished in March, they actually mean at least May. It is already July right now and we have yet to get an announcement about the completion of the project!
- The six-lane bridge located half a kilometer south of Al Maktoum bridge will hold over 6,000 vehicles during peak hours.
- The floating bridge project is part of an integrated system the RTA is implementing to reduce the traffic congestion of Al Maktoum Bridge, on which more than 150,000 vehicles pass each day.
- First of its kind in the UAE, it will be built out of 20-meter wide hollow concrete blocks that will float on water.
Sounds exciting, isn’t it? There are so many questions in mind, on top of it is of course, the safety matters and if it will help the current traffic situation. Nobody has the answers yet.
I guess we’ll all cross the bridge when we get there.
