In a country with a gigantic construction boom, harboring thousands and thousands of construction workers without the right to create a labor union, this is so evident.
About 600 workers marched from their labour accommodation in Jebel Ali to Sheikh Zayed Road protesting against the deductions of food allowance from their meager salaries.
Their current wage is 1Dhs 470 a month and from that they are having Dhs 210 deducted for food supplied by the company.
We are talking about the laborers who toil under the heat of the desert sun for at least 10 hours per day; who are living in shabby quarters in far flung areas with conditions that are inhuman in normal standards. These are the laborers that make the plush buildings and making Dubai stand out from the rest of the world.
Every coin has its fine as well as its rusty side.
